ちょうど今僕は、「英語の前置詞の意味論」（アンドレア･タイラー、
ビビアン･エバンズ共著　国広哲弥（監訳）木村哲也（翻訳）　
2005年　研究社）
と言う本を読んでいるので、その例文をご紹介しますと、
In this picture, Diana is standing to my left.
In this picture, Diana is stnading on my left.
onだと接していると言う意味になり
toにも「接する」という意味はありますが
この意味では、「位置」していると言う意味だそうです
例えば
Please take the seats to the front of the auditorium.
(講堂の最前列の席にお座りください)
The boarders lived in the rooms to the back of the house.
（下宿人たちは家の奥の部屋で暮らしている）
