tell が正解になっている問題を一部語順を変えておきました。

(1) say
(2) speak
(3) talk

と
(2) I want to say something to you about it.
のどっちが正しいか聞いたところ、
I can't speak to the correctness, or to which rules are being followed
(or not) here, but I /can/ tell you that in common usage #1 above would
more likely be worded as:
I want to tell you something about it.
という返事でした。SVOO の語順になるのは、おそらく情報構造上そうなるのが自然だということだと思います。you と something はどちらかというと something のほうがふつうは大切な情報ですから。
#2 would be fine and commonly heard, as well, as is.
Again, not sure of the rules at play here, if any, but hope that helps

#"tell something to you about it"に該当するページが見つかりませんでした。
#"say something to you about it" の検索結果 約 1,160 件
という結果でした。
コーパスでtell something to youを探すと、
#Results of your search -- Your query was -- tell something to you -- No solutions found for this query!
と、０件でしたから、tell something to youはほとんど間違いに近いと言ってもいいのでしょう。

どうやら、tell O1 O2 を tell O2 O1 にする場合、原則的には可能だけども、anything や something の場合には制限があるということだと思います。
