■A: ちょっと質問の意味がよくわからないのですが、こういうことでしょうか？
The book by which is written that an estimated 300 tribes and about as many languages / used to exist on this continent. という文が文法的に正しいかどうかということでしょうか？ それなら、文法的に間違っています。
○理由１：The book by which is written that ...というのがどこからこうなったのかわからないのですが、by which は前置詞＋関係代名詞なので、副詞になります。例えば、前置詞＋関係代名詞を使った文、This is the house of which I spoke the other day. を考えてみると、of which I spoke the other day (I spoke of the house the other day が元の形)は、少なくても、SV はそろっています。つまり、前置詞＋関係代名詞は、副詞句だったものを前に出しただけなので、副詞句を出しただけで、主語や動詞がなくなるということはありません。しかし、The book by which is written that ...には、主語がありません。だから、文法的に間違いです。
○理由２：The book .... languageが主語部、used to existが動詞部と考えて――とのことですが、that an estimated 300 tribes and about as many languages の that は、that 節なので、文が来るはずなので、languages で切ることはできません。
○理由３：それから、たとえ、The book by which is written that an estimated 300 tribes and about as many languages が主部だということにしても、意味的に「本がかつてこの大陸に存在した」はおかしいでしょう。
