ちょっと今忙しいので、時間をください。とりあえず、今までMLなどで帰ってきた答えを紹介しておきます。

■of the Russian language が自然な言い方であるとのこと
I can only tell you -- as a native English speaker -- that "the Russian language" feels much more natural than simply saying "Russian language" in this case, so I would use it ("the"). Technically, they're probably pretty close in meaning, but I think leaving it out would open the door for some subtle nuance(s) in meaning (which I'm at a loss to explain right now :-)

■of Russian language のニュアンスについて
It seems to me that a study of "Russian language" would probably be, or at least is possibly, a study of all the languages spoken in Russia. Although I don't know what those languages might be, I suspect that there are several. Things that might be learned by study of "Russian language" are the geographic regions where the various languages are spoken and the effect the diverse languages have on how the country is governed.

However, a study of "the Russian language" would result in learning about only the one most popular language of Russia, which I assume is Russian.

It's just my humble opinion. I'm no grammarian. I joined this group to learn. So take my opinion as only a contribution to the discussion, and not as expert grammar advice.

そう投げかけたところ――、
I thought it was interesting that you googled so many "of Russian
language" such that I had to check it out myself ... I found many
times this phrase came up without the 'the" because of the context.
On the first few pages of googling, I found

of Russian language study
" " " poetry
etc. proficiency
          specialisation
          training
          pages
          courses
          instruction

With "Russian language" describing another word, you wouldn't
necessarily expect an article.

I also found no-the when R.L. was the title either of an article or
more often of a course. And I found it in places in a title with
another word following it: of Russian Language and Literature.
