Hello,
I am a native speaker, my wife has been using your site. To me, your answer is incorrect. When someone is laid off, they are fired instantly. Being laid off, means that the reasoning behind it is not necessarily performance, but it does not change the fact that they no longer work for the company effective immediately. The terms of the layoff *may* be temporary in the length of time. However, the layoff occurs immediately, which means their job is terminated immediately. If you have any questions or conerns about my email regarding this question please feel free to email me at jjuker@gmail.com or reply to this post.
