In a nation with almost one hundred percent literacy and with perhaps the world's largest number and variety of weekly and monthly magazines, it is no wonder that the custom of tachiyomi -- "standing reading," or bookstore browsing -- should be well entrenched, even in this age of television. ... And somehow a libarary is a place one does not go to without a purpose; tachiyomi is free, easy, and requires no motivation at all.
