If the advent of photography was one major turning point in the framing of modern conceptions of 'the real', we may now be on the verge of another, equally significant turning point: with the twentieth century receding quickly behind us, we are gradually shifting from the analogue world of roll film that dominated the last hundred years to a brave new digital world where the images is coded on computer chips. ... The difference lies, then, in the kind of belief we bring to the image, the kind of knowledge-assumption we make about what an image represents to us.
