Watch a boy studying who you are sure is not aware of being observed. He will read ten lines and then pause to draw an amusing face at the side of the page. He will try to read ten more lines and then stop to whistle a popular song. Then he will arrange all the books on his table and sharpen all his pencils. His moments of true concentration are accompanied by all kinds of waste motions -- tapping both heels on the floor, glancing frequently around the room and shifting his position in the chair.
