In the past two years, 500 export assembly factories have shut down in Mexico, throwing 218,000 workers onto the street. ..... I would suggest the following four standards for companies on the preferred list: 1) full public disclosure of factory names and addresses, 2) adoption of a code of conduct which calls for strictly obeying all local laws and core International Labor Organization-recognied rights, 3) release, at least once a year, of monitoring reports regarding the conditions in their factories, 4) an agreement to respond to claims of worker rights' violations.
