However, despite these financial advantages and benefits, the Yonsei are not necessarily the "spoiled" generation they have been called because they have been coming of age when Hawaii's economy has been in a prolonged recession since the early 1990s, and that has led some of them to join the "brain drain" to the continental United States for better economic opportunities rather than remaining in Hawaii with family and friends.
