Having made it virtually certain that anima-lovers (or at any rate those animal-lovers who do not read very critically) are already won over to his view, the writer now daringly seeks to widen his appeal with a conclusion in which he says how serious a crime is cruelty of any kind, but especially 'cruelty to animals or children'.
