Read the passage below and write a composition in English of about 200 words in which you answer the following questions.
・ How would you feel if you were told that part of completing your university degree involved spending some time in a foreign country?
・ Do you think such a plan should be compulsory? Why or why not?

What does it mean to be an educated person in teh 21st century? Is it enough to read all the important books, or do you need to see a bit of the world as well? That was the question recently tackled by a committee at Harvard University -- and it was decided that students should experience the world before they graduate.
Students studying humanities and science at Harvard will soon be required to spend time in foreign countries, especially in Third Word countries, as part of their degree. The aim is for them to gain insights into the rest of the world and how it views the US. "We live at a time of inescapable American influence around the rorld," said the dean of humanities and science, William Kirby. "With influence comes responsibilities -- who will live and work in all corners of the globe -- as citizens not only of their home country, but also of the world."
The committee recommended that all Harvard students pursue an "international experience" involving study or work, but not just touring or sightseeing. They would be urged to seek "purposeful activities in a Third World culture."
