In the past most people associated good wine with one country: France. There was no doubt that French wine producers, who exported their wines all over the world, produced the best wines that money could buy. Some of these wines were very expensive.
But something has happened in the world's wine industry that is causing French producers to worry. Other countries, such as Chile, Australia and South Africa, for instance, are marketing cheaper wines of high quality with a trendy image. More and more people around the world are purchasing these wines; and French produceers have had to compete with producers in these countries. The increased ompetition has caused the French market share to drop.
